Trends 2023: An Evolutionary Overview

The world is changing faster than ever, and technologies are advancing more aggressively day by day. Before, there was space for us to relax and only occasionally seek out what was new. However, today, with the speed of innovation, constant knowledge seeking is necessary, as evolutionary cycles that previously occurred in decades or years now occur in just a few months.

The constant need for trends and market monitoring, and looking to the past, analyzing the present, and aiming for the future, we understand that in 2023, the major technology trends are:

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI, ML): Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning will continue to lead the way in 2023, increasingly present in areas like health, transportation, energy, and finance. Chatbots and virtual assistants are already a high trend and will continue to grow, with a focus on better serving the public by reducing bottlenecks and “noise” caused by human operation. Similarly, AI-based technologies for voice and image recognition will appear, as models are evolving exponentially and will undoubtedly not slow down their pace of evolution. In addition, this year will be the year of AI inclusion in everyone's culture, ChatGPT, MidJourney, Wall E and all the other video, audio, image, translation, and analytics tools will change the way we work and think, and everybody will all have to understand, learn and dig deep into how to structure our thoughts into prompts.

Internet of Things (IoT): The interconnection between devices and appliances will certainly change as a result of the increase in data speed and availability, such as 5G and sensor networks. This will lead to an increase in energy efficiency and the emergence of new business models and services. Day after day, the market understands the evolution, sees opportunities, and innovates by adding new products, services, and value to various businesses.

Robots: The robot evolution will certainly be towards autonomous robots, drones, and other technologies, mainly for use in industries for product shipping and in public services, which can bring significant increases in efficiency and productivity. The “fumes of war” may also contribute to speed-up the robot technology and, consequently, its availability.

Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality (VR, AR): The use of virtual reality in training, games, and entertainment, as well as the use of augmented reality in improving the user experience in shopping apps, maps, and games, will certainly be of great presence. Not only META or China are investing in such technologies, but the future should be a hybrid of virtual and real, bringing the best of both worlds for productivity, convenience, quality of life, and services.

Cybersecurity: With the increasing presence of technology and dependence on the Internet in our lives and those of our children, cybersecurity will become increasingly important. We believe that a much greater attention is going to be dedicated to cyber security in 2023. It is natural to expect an increase in the use of two-factor authentication technologies and the implementation of more advanced security tools to protect personal, business, and government systems and data against increasingly sophisticated cyber-attacks.

Blockchain: The utilization of distributed ledger technology provides a secure and immutable system for creating a variety of applications, including smart contracts, virtual currencies, certification of evidence and titles, and electronic voting. As the blockchain becomes more widely understood as a reliable high-level security solution, its adoption is expected to increase in 2023, with continued development and expansion of its applications.

Our world is changing fast, and it is up to us to understand what’s coming ahead, to study and try to keep up with the new trends, and, as much as possible, to build our own tomorrow, so that we can remain competitive in the face of so many changes and innovations.

At BRISA, themes such as AI applied to image generation, system coding, research and development support, and data analysis are already a reality. We are constantly evolving, always seeking innovation to provide the best and most up-to-date solutions for our customers.
